Melanie and therapists in the Lowry Hills rehab gym

Melanie’s Journey to Strength and Joy at Lowry Hills

Earlier this year, Melanie came to Lowry Hills Care Center with a big goal: to regain her strength—both physically and cognitively—through physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech-language pathology (SLP). From day one, Melanie embraced every challenge with determination and a smile, quickly becoming our Rehab Superstar

Her progress has been nothing short of inspiring. When she first arrived, Melanie could complete only 3 sit-to-stands in 30 seconds. Today, she proudly performs 12 sit-to-stands in the same time, dramatically reducing her fall risk and boosting her confidence. This achievement reflects her hard work and commitment to improving her mobility and independence.

But Melanie’s success isn’t just measured in numbers—it shines in her spirit. She brings energy and joy to our dance and game groups, playing with competitive enthusiasm and encouraging others along the way. Her passion for winning and having fun reminds us all that recovery is not just about strength—it’s about living life fully.

Melanie continues to inspire our entire team with her resilience, positivity, and determination. We are so proud of her incredible progress and honored to be part of her journey. Way to go, Melanie—you truly are a Rehab Superstar!

Evelyn with employees at Lowry Hills

Therapy Success Story: Meet Evelyn!

Evelyn calls Lowry Hills home, and her beautiful smile and lively personality draw you in instantly. With a great sense of humor and a love for joking with others, she radiates optimism and resilience qualities likely strengthened by her experiences as an individual who is deaf. She has shown incredible patience and generosity in teaching our team American Sign Language.

Though Evelyn has faced significant health challenges, she has made tremendous literal and figurative strides in therapy to improve her safety and independence. Before beginning therapy, Evelyn preferred to stay in bed, and staff needed a mechanical lift to help her safely transfer to her chair. Limited by pain and weakness, she relied on others for dressing, hygiene, and movement.

Thanks to her hard work and dedication alongside the expert support of Zeynep, Occupational Therapist, and Jay, Physical Therapist.  Evelyn’s progress has been remarkable. She now transfers with minimal assistance using her walker, walks short distances, dresses herself, and spends several hours each day out of bed.

Today, Evelyn’s quality of life has soared! She’s become a true social butterfly full of energy, joy, and laughter. She attends therapy groups, never misses The Price is Right, competes enthusiastically in games (trust us, you’ll want her on your team!), and enjoys every sweet treat that comes her way.

Evelyn’s journey is a shining example of how perseverance, positivity, and teamwork can transform lives.

Joe and the team at Lowry Hills

Joe’s Incredible Recovery Journey

When Joe first came to us following a stroke that affected his right side, he faced tremendous challenges. He required a modified diet to prevent aspiration, had difficulty reading and communicating, and needed moderate assistance for transfers and walking. His balance score on the Tinetti was just 7 out of 28.

Through hard work, determination, and the dedication of his therapy team, Joe has made remarkable progress!

Today, Joe enjoys a regular diet, communicates clearly, and can read and express himself with confidence. Inspired by his Speech-Language Pathologist, Lindsey, Joe proudly says, “I am on fire!” — and we couldn’t agree more!

Physically, his progress is equally inspiring:

  • Tinetti score: up from 7 → 17

  • Walking distance: increased from 150 ft (with minimal assist) → 300 ft (with supervision)

  • Right shoulder range of motion: improved from 0–60° → 0–86°

  • Transfers: now at supervision level

Joe’s journey is a true testament to perseverance, teamwork, and the healing power of skilled rehabilitation. Way to go, Joe — we are so proud of you!
